These Unprecedented Times Catalyze Further Community Support and Generosity– Thank you!

These unprecedented times…

That is how we constantly hear colleagues, politicians, and the news describe the current situation we all find ourselves in and they’re right. Twenty of the twenty-one neighborhoods in our service area are located on the North side of St. Louis City and are among those hardest hit by Covid-19. (For more details of Covid-19 cases by zip code) Many have seen jobs disappear overnight and with that the ability to pay for basic needs like food, rent and utilities.

However, these unprecedented times have also acted as a catalyst and a call-to-action. We’ve seen communities mobilize at a moment’s notice to provide a helping hand to those in need and we’ve been blown away by the generosity of our partners, funders, family and friends who have stepped up so that North Newstead can continue to serve our communities and residents.

Today, North Newstead Association staff made our first of several deliveries of fresh, nutritious produce to our neighborhood association partners who assisted in connecting us to residents most affected by the current pandemic. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Invest STL for their support which allowed us to deliver bountiful bags of produce to 75 different families in three different neighborhoods on the North side. A special shout out to the Ms. Rosalyn Jackson of the O’Fallon Community Developing Organization, Ms. Conchita Curry of the Penrose Neighborhood Association, Brian Krueger of the St. Louis Place Community Association and to Quinton Ward with St. Louis MetroMarket! We could not have done any of this without you!

The generosity of our network did not stop there.

Since the stay-at-home orders began, several individuals have reached out and donated funds to allow us to provide rental assistance to our tenants who have had their incomes affected by Covid-19. These amazing individuals include Robyn Heidger of Enterprise Bank, Collin Robinson, Mike Burns, Ametra Harris, Connie Boyer Cox, Kathlene Postel Gaines and Rhonda Eichelberger Liddell. With a total of $2,500 donated for rental assistance, we cannot thank you all enough for your thoughtfulness and generosity!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, St. Louis! Over the next few weeks, North Newstead staff will continue to provide produce bags for other families in our service area with the goal of providing a total of 300 families with fresh, nourishing produce. If you or your organization would like to help us expand our reach further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you.
